The unnamed rune-language is that which is inscribed in its own alphabet upon the magical, enigmatic runestones that once littered Tamriel and the realms of Oblivion. It is not derived from any known historic or pre-Dawn culture. Runes have specific, measurable meanings and serve as a common language among enchanters that allow them to repeatably imbue items with mystical properties.
